How to Keep Child's Brain Active

How to Keep Child

It is important to keep the child’s brain active for proper development of the brain. Find out the ways by which you can ensure that the child’s brain stays active.

The early years of the life are when the individual develops and grows. This is propelled by the development of the brain which is just trying to adjust to the outside environment and relating the individual as a part of the whole. So it is necessary that appropriate measures are taken to ensure this activity phase of the brain does not stop or become stagnant. It needs to be taken care that the brain is constantly in a learning and discovering mode. Only then will the baby be able to adequately get equipped to deal and be a part of the environment in the real sense of the term. Here are some ways by which you can ensure that the child’s brain stays active:

Respond to the Cries Without Delay

Babies need constant soothing, cuddling and reassuring that everything is alright and there is nothing to fear. This in turn helps in keeping the brain active as the limbic area of the brain, which is related to emotions get stimulated and thus, the child feels “safe” to explore the surroundings further. The sense of emotional security aids directly in brain development.

Build Trust

This is a follow-through of the above point which is related to building emotional security in the infant. Babies who develop this secure sense of attachment will develop more life energy that will be invested in further exploration and learning. He will be happy and excited while engaging himself in regular discoveries and derive endless joy out of it.

Choose Toys that Aid Development

While choosing toys for your baby, take note of the fact that they should aid his development in some way or the other. This means that there is something to explore and interact as he is playing with the toy. This will keep his brain active as he tries to make out the cause and effect relationship. Say for example, he is playing building blocks, and while placing one on top of the other, it falls off, he will learn that if a bigger block is placed on top of a smaller one, the stack would fall off. This builds his if-then reasoning ability.

Engage the Infant in Clean up Times

This is of course when the baby grows to a few months and is able to play with toys etc. and not newborns. During sleep time or clean up times, engage the baby in helping you out. Ask him to hand over a set of toys say, the stuffed animals first, or the car type toys next. This will help him in categorising that certain set is to be maintained while storing them away. His brain will be active that he must be aware of this setting up of categories so that one do not get mixed with the “wrong” category. This is a great way to further cognitive advancement.

Sing Songs

While playing with the baby or bathing him, or while cleaning up the bed, sing songs like Ring-around-Rosy etc., that is, songs that require hand eye movement. Various types of body motions will help the kid in integrating sounds with the relative motor actions. As he watches you or tries to emulate you, his brain will be active all the way.

Finally, this is an advice for parents who desire their babies to be always taken good care of. They abstain from making the baby eat with their own hands and help the baby with every action. This harms the brain development of the baby as he becomes increasingly dependent for each and every requirement. So, allow the kid to eat holding the spoon with his own hands. This will keep his brain active; as such kids are prone to become a mechanical eater whenever they are fed something. The objective is to keep his attention on, and stay focused. But also you need to take care that you do not over-stimulate the kid. His rest times should be quiet and undisturbed.
